ARTIST PROFILE

John is an award-winning art director and designer and has been illustrating professionally since 1990. He is the illustrator of several children’s books including Whitewater Scrubs, Rufus the Scrub Does Not Wear a Tutu!, Scrubs Forever!, Balls!, and Balls! Round 2. His humorous work has also been published in Forbes, The Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Christianity Today and a variety of other trade and consumer publications. In addition to children’s books and editorial work, his illustrations have been used in the marketing of products for major advertisers such as Discover Card, KFC, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Sheraton Hotels, and AT&T.

John attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh where he also picked up the zaney art of caricature while studying with the late, renowned caricaturist John Johns. He still enjoys drawing caricatures for occasional parties and events. “I love to draw, doodle, and create in general. There’s a lot of satisfaction in making folks chuckle when they see your work,” he adds. “And if you can brighten someone’s day with a funny picture, how can that be a bad thing?”

John conducts workshops and demos for schools as well as illustrator and designer events. He has lived in central Ohio since 2004.
